Rules and Guidelines for the Short Film Competition

1. The competition is open to all filmmakers residing in Calabarzon (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, and Quezon) who have films made from January to December 2017. Filmmakers should submit a proof of residence (cedula, ID indicating address, barangay clearance, etc.).

2. All entries should be original, including the film’s music and all other elements. The filmmaker should secure permission to use all copyrighted materials (music, video clips, etc.) that appear in the film.

3. Entries should be a narrative film and may be shot in live action or animation. Experimental narratives and Documentaries are also accepted.

4. There will be two categories in the competition: the student category and the open category (for the non-student filmmakers). Running time should at least be five (5) minutes and should not exceed 20 minutes. Longer films may be considered for valid reasons but they should not exceed 45 minutes.

5. A filmmaker may submit more than one entry.

6. The film should have English subtitles in consideration of foreign audience.

7. Filmmakers should notify the organizers if the film contains explicit language and images.

All entries should be received on or before January 2, 2017.

9. A shortlist of finalists in each category will be announced on or before January 10, 2018. Finalists should submit one data file of the film, trailer (both in h.264 mp4 format), and poster stored in a flash drive or DVD.

10. The best film from the Student category will win P5,000, and the best film from the Open category will win P10,000.00.

11. Winners of special awards will also be declared. These awards are as follows:

Best Screenplay

Best Cinematography

Best Editing

Best Sound

Best Production Design

Best Performance

12. Shortlisted filmmakers are official delegates to the festival and should attend it on in February 2018 at UPLB.
